What Transcripter does with a video
When you paste a YouTube link, Transcripter sends the video ID to Supadata to fetch the transcript text, and separately uses yt-dlp (running on our own server) to fetch the video's title, channel, thumbnail, and — if you use the download button — the video file itself. The transcript is then sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the AI summary. None of this requires you to be signed in — transcribing and viewing a transcript are available to anyone.
Account data
Signing in uses Google Sign-In. We receive your Google account's email address, name, and avatar image, and store them tied to your account. We don't receive or store your Google password. Your session is kept in a signed cookie in your browser — we don't use a separate session-tracking database.
What we store
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email, name, avatar (from Google) | Identify your account, associate your transcript history |
| YouTube URLs you submit, and the resulting transcript & AI summary | So you can view, share, and revisit your history |
| Plan (Free/Premium/Platinum) and Stripe customer/subscription IDs | Billing status |
We do not store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Stripe, which has its own privacy policy.
Listen (text-to-speech)
If you use the Listen feature, the text of the AI summary is sent to Microsoft's edge-tts service to generate audio, one paragraph at a time. This text isn't stored by us beyond generating the audio.
Public share links
Every transcript gets a random, non-guessable share link (e.g. /t/abc123) that works without signing in — this is by design, so you can share a transcript with anyone. Only people with the exact link can view it; it is not listed publicly or indexed by search engines, and it doesn't reveal your account, email, or identity to viewers.
Third parties we send data to
- Google — sign-in (email, name, avatar)
- Supadata — the YouTube video ID, to fetch transcript text
- Anthropic (Claude) — transcript text, to generate the AI summary
- Microsoft (edge-tts) — summary text, only when you use Listen
- Stripe — billing, if you subscribe to a paid plan
- AWS — hosts the app and its database
Deleting your data
You can delete any individual transcript yourself at any time from your history. To delete your entire account and all associated data, email dan.newman1982@gmail.com and we'll remove it.
Cookies
We use one cookie — a signed session token that keeps you logged in. It's functional only; we don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
Children
Transcripter is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is used, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
